Crime and Punishment

In the News - FTC Warning about Online/Email Stimulus Scams:

This does not surprise me. I've noticed some of those recently. I've just found a couple of those off to the left side of the Google Search page results under Sponsored Links. Shouldn't Google and others use a little more common sense and be held accountable for accepting ads that are obviously from scam artists?

Can we please have the death penalty for scam artists? My opinion, we should.

I don't believe in warehousing most criminals at the expense of taxpayers. I believe the work camps are acceptable, where their labor produces products that can be sold to pay for all of their basic minimum needs. I can imagine a TV commercial for that: "Support the American Justice System - Buy shoes made by American Criminals - Step on Crime!"

There is the interesting scenario presented in the movie Escape from New York, and I would favor something like that if it could ever be accomplished at the appropriate location. Or similarly banish them to Coventry, such as in the science fiction story by Robert A. Heinlein.

Maybe bring back public floggings for a new reality TV show? Maybe a punishment game show - spin the wheel to find out the punishment - like in the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. I believe in low-cost, severe but fair, short-term, swift methods of punishment for most criminals. I guess the old Roman method would be too severe - and it would be cruel to lions anyway - makes me wonder how PETA would feel about animals eating humans!

Those of you reading this can see I'm in a warp between humor and being serious today.

I'm wondering how other opinions of crime and punishment fit on the traditional line from far left liberals to far right conservatives, and where most Centrists/Moderates stand on the issue of crime and punishment. Any comments?

Crime must not be tolearated. Criminals thrive on the tolerance of society as Ras Al Ghul said in Batman Begins. He is right. Pre meditated and multiple murderers should not ever be let out of prison and I believe in the death penalty as well. For crimes other than multiple murders or premeditated murder I think the prisons should first punish and then rehabilitate. Everyone deserves a chance to change except those who have killed, and taken away anothers life in cold blood. In my opinion they have showed they are incapable of living in society. Should scam artists be subject to the death penalty? I don't think so as taking money is very different than say taking anothers life. Should it be punished severely, absolutely. Just my thoughts. No matter how "small" the crime it should be punished somehow or a debt to society be repaid. For example a person possesing drugs for personal use and not for distribution. Should not go to prison in my opinion but should be punished with fines and community service. Because as long as they are not contributing to another's detriment and not infringing on anyones rights. Now the dealer on the other hand is contributing to the detriment and profiting off of an illegal substance, so in my opinion they should face prison time.

adding to the comment....lets say a person was using around children or had children in the home or even another adult around not using. Then I think prison time should be an option because they put others at risk by being high.

I will soon post a significant, lengthy and very serious article by me, about the failed war against the trafficking of illegal drugs and why it has failed - relating to corruption in government and law enforcement, as viewed by me during my life with its impact on my life. This issue is the most heated issue that interest me, equal to my interest in health care issues.
